The Postmodern Geek's Guide to Sex Show #6

At last! The fabled sextoy podcast is reality! Download it now to hear 3 girls dishing about toys while podcasting under the influence, random buzzing and Marie B. indulging in a little auto-bondage, among other naughty things.

The Toys we discuss in this podcast are:
The Futurotic Cuddly Companion
Pearl Butterfly
Eager Beaver
The Reach Out and Touch Me Vibe
Slimline clitoral stimulators
I Rub My Duckie Bondage Duckie
Don Juan Scepter (or a reasonable example of what Crista has)
Fukuoku
USB Powered Multi-Function Vibrator
Slim Jim Anal Probe
Impulse Bulbous Vibe
IRabbit
Rope ( do I really need to post a picture?)

We of course cover the care and cleaning of sex toys, however, in case we didn't cover everything, here are the specifics:

Non-Porous

  • Non-porous toys-silicone, glass, hard plastic and stone) have no pores and therefore when cleaned, are really clean. Use anti-bac soap or a bleach or alcohol solution (1:10 bleach/alcohol to water) or boil them or run them through the top shelf of your dishwasher

  • Be aware that some companies mislabel toys as silicone when they are really latex.

  • Silicone (medical grade) is opaque, never see through.

  • The surface will be without pores, and will have a silky-smooth surface. They can range from very firm to floppy, and they warm to body temperature and retain heat for a long time.

  • Silicone toys can be boiled for up to five minutes or put in the top rack of the dishwasher for complete sterilization, which is especially good for anal toys. Some silicone toys will react badly to silicone lubricants, so it's best to use water-based lubes with your silicone toys.

Porous
  • Most toys are made from a substance called jelly rubber or some name close to that. They are porous and are more likely to harbor bacteria

  • Jelly toys are usually clear, come in all sorts of fun colors (some are even sparkly!) or are made to look more like real skin (cyberskin)

  • A lot of these toys contain all sorts of weird mystery chemicals called phtalates and no one really has any idea what these chemicals might do to the body which is another reason why it’s a good idea to use condoms on these toys

  • I’ve also read that the cyberskin toys will melt into chemical goo if they come into contact with other jelly toys! This is due to a weird chemical reaction between the two materials.

  • And of course there’s the fact that many people are allergic to latex which can definitely put a damper on one’s play

  • Also, if you’ve been using a jelly toy and suddenly start having infections or irritation it’s either time to throw it away or start using a condom with it.

  • Make sure to always wash these toys with anti-bac soap and if it gets used for anal play then make it exclusively an anal toy

  • Your best bet is to treat these toys as disposable. If they start to look dull or you can see tears or breaks in the surface then throw them out.
